US Secretary of State John Kerry is working on a document spelling out America’s basic principles for a peace agreement that both sides – with reservations – are to agree to follow as a framework for continuing Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, Israeli officials said Monday.
The comments came as Kerry left the region after five days, and as Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu briefed his Likud faction on the progress of the talks.
Kerry is expected to return next week.
Netanyahu told the Likud MKs that there will be elements inside the American declaration of principles that Israel will not like, and there will be elements that the Palestinians will not like.
In speech at Tel Aviv think tank, senior minister sets his party’s terms for an agreement with the Palestinians
Economy and Trade Minister Naftali Bennett, head of the Jewish Home party, rejected Tuesday afternoon the prospect of a peace deal based on the 1967 lines, and called a potential Palestinian state “a demographic disaster for Israel."
He indicated that his right-wing party would bolt the coalition if the talks progressed under certain conditions. “We will not sit in a government that, due to international pressure, endangers the future of our children and divides our capital,” he said.
However, Bennett did not say that the Jewish Home would leave the government automatically over any agreement.
The so-called "polar vortex" of dense, frigid air that dropped temperatures in some parts of the country to near-record lows and grounded over 3,000 flights on Monday, is now spreading to southern and eastern parts of the country, keeping many schools and businesses shuttered.
The Northeast will be hit with cold on Tuesday, according to The Weather Channel, with single-digit highs expected in most parts of the region while temperatures will be in the teens in Boston, New York City and Philadelphia. Tuesday's high of 14 degrees in New York City will be more than 40 degrees less than Monday's high of 55 degrees.
The Midwest was hit with the brunt of the cold on Monday, with temperatures plunging to 40 below zero -- the coldest in the nation -- in Brimson, Minn., as of Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
Nearly 3,200 flights -- one out of every 10 domestic departures -- were canceled Monday morning, following a weekend of travel disruption across the U.S. Airline officials said de-icing fluid was freezing, fuel was pumping sluggishly, and ramp workers were having difficulty loading and unloading luggage.
Americans in two dozen states from the Midwest to the Southeast and Northeast are shivering this week courtesy of a distorted polar vortex. The rush of cold air it's sending southward is the biggest visitor from the North Pole since Santa Claus. The gifts it brings, however, are chilling and generally unwelcome. Much of the United States has plunged into a deep freeze from record low temperatures.
CNN International senior meteorologist Brandon Miller answers a few pressing questions about this phenomenon.
What is a polar vortex? What distinguishes it?
The polar vortex, as it sounds, is circulation of strong, upper-level winds that normally surround the northern pole in a counterclockwise direction -- a polar low-pressure system. These winds tend to keep the bitter cold air locked in the Arctic regions of the Northern Hemisphere. It is not a single storm. On occasion, this vortex can become distorted and dip much farther south than you would normally find it, allowing cold air to spill southward.

California Legislators Propose Legislation To Keep NSA Out Of Their State
A bipartisan group of California State lawmakers introduced legislation Monday to fight the National Security Agency’s spying on American citizens by prohibiting the State and its localities from providing “material support” to the Federal agency. The bill would disallow the NSA to access public water and electricity from California utility companies, bar companies with State contracts from working with the NSA and prohibit colleges receiving State funding from building research partnerships with the spy agency.

Attached to each treat was a message explaining the religious legend surround the candies. It takes a special kind of evil to confiscate a six-year-old child’s Christmas gifts. In this age of tolerance and diversity, public school educators seem to be under the impression that they can bully and intimidate Christian boys and girls.

The Pretribulation Rapture

What is the Pretribulation Rapture?

The rapture is an event that will take place sometime in the near future. Jesus will come in the air, catch up the Church from the earth, and then return to heaven with the Church. The Apostle Paul gave a clear description of the rapture event in his letters to the Thessalonians and Corinthians."For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words." (1 Thess, 4:16-18).
"Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal [must] put on immortality" (1 Cor. 15:51-53).
The timing of the rapture is not known. From the Word of God and from sound reasoning--something Jesus used quite frequently--I hope to prove the reality of the pretribulation rapture.
The word "rapture" comes from Paul's "caught up" remark in verse 17. The words "caught up" are translated from the Greek word harpazo, which means "to carry off," "snatch up," or "grasp hastily." The translation from harpazo to "rapture" involved two steps: first, harpazo became the Latin word raptus; second, raptusbecame the English word "rapture."

Scriptural Evidence for the Pretribulation Rapture

The Unknown Hour
When we search the Scriptures and read the passages describing the Lord Jesus' return, we find verses that tell us we won't know the day and hour of that event. Matthew 25:13 says Jesus will return at an unknown time, while Revelation 12:6 indicates that the Jews will have to wait on the Lord 1,260 days, starting when the Antichrist stands in the Temple of God and declares himself to be God (2 Thes 2:4). This event will take place at the mid-point of the seven-year tribulation (Dan 9:27). Note that some people only see a three-and-a-half-year tribulation. In a way, they are correct because the first half of the tribulation will be relatively peaceful compared to the second half. Nonetheless, peaceful or not, there still remains a seven-year period called the tribulation. When the Jews flee into the wilderness, they know that all they have to do is wait out those 1,260 days (Mat 24:16). There is no way to apply the phrase "neither the day nor the hour" to this situation. The only way for these two viewpoints to be true is to separate the two distinct events transpiring here: 1) the rapture of the Church, which comes before the tribulation; and 2) the return of Jesus to the earth, which takes place roughly seven years later.

The Marriage Supper of the Lamb
In Luke 12:36, the Word states that when Christ returns, He will be returning from a wedding. In Revelation 19:7-8, we read about the marriage itself. The marriage supper takes place before the marriage. According to Jewish custom, the marriage contract, which often includes a dowry, is drawn up first. The contract parallels the act of faith we use when we trust Jesus to be our Savior. The dowry is His life, which was used to purchase us. When it's time for the wedding, the groom goes to the bride's house unannounced. She comes out to meet him, and then he takes her to his father's house. This precisely correlates with the events according to the pre-trib scenario. Jesus, the Groom, comes down from heaven and calls up the Church, His Bride. After meeting in the air, He and His Bride return to His Father's house, heaven. The marriage supper itself will take place there, while down here on earth the final events of the tribulation will be playing out. After the marriage supper of Jewish tradition, the bride and groom are presented to the world as man and wife. This corresponds to the time when Jesus returns to earth accompanied by an army "clothed in fine linen, white and clean" (Rev 19:14).

What They Didn't Teach You in History Class
Many groups try to discredit the pre-trib rapture by saying most of the end-time events in the Bible have already taken place. A group of people called preterists claims that the Book of Revelation was mostly fulfilled by 70 AD. If the events described in the Book of Revelation took place in the past, I'm at a loss to explain some of the current situations I see around us: the rebirth of Israel, the reunification of Europe, the number of global wars that have occurred, and the development of nuclear weapons. During history class, I must have slept through the part where the teacher talked about the time when a third of the trees were burned up, 100-pound hailstones fell from the sky, and the sea turned into blood (Rev 8:7-8, 16:21). I think several people would have to question their opposition to the pre-trib rapture doctrine if they knew that the evidence provided to them was based on the understanding that most tribulation prophecies have already occurred.

The People of the Millennium
If Christ were to come back after the tribulation, rapture all the saints, and slay all the ungodly, who would be left to populate the earth during the millennium? Only the pre-trib viewpoint can account for this post-trib problem. The Church is raptured before the tribulation, a vast number of souls are saved during this seven-year time frame, and those who make it through the tribulation go into the millennium while the unsaved are cast into hell.

The Saint U-Turn
In the pre-trib scenario, after we rise to meet the Lord in the air, we will go to heaven and abide there seven years. At the end of that period, Christ will come down to earth, defeat the Antichrist, and cleanse the temple. In a post-trib rapture, we would rise in the air to meet the Lord, then do a 180-degree U-turn and come back down to earth. Revelation 1:7 states that Christ will appear out of the clouds and come down to earth. Zechariah 14:4 says that His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives. If He's already headed our way, why would we need to be caught up to meet Him?

"Come Up Hither"
Many pre-trib writers cite Revelation 4:1, which says, "come up hither," as a prophetic reference to the rapture of the Church, leaving Revelation chapters 1 through 3 as a description of the Church Age. After the shout to "come up hither," the Church is not mentioned in Scripture at all. The attention of Scripture switches from the Church to the Jews living in Israel.

Armies in Fine Linen
When Jesus returns (Rev. 19:18), an army follows Him. The army's members are riding on white horses, and they are clothed in fine linen that is white and clean. In Revelation 19:8, we are told that the fine linen is the righteousness of the saints. If the saints of God are returning with Christ to wage war on the Antichrist, then it is not possible to have a post-trib rapture without us running into ourselves as we are coming and going.

The Time of Jacob's Trouble
In several passages, the Bible refers to the tribulation as a time of trouble for the Jews. The phrase "Jacob's trouble" pertains to the descendants of Jacob. Jeremiah 30:7 says that this time of trouble will come just before the Lord returns to save His people. The final week of Daniel's 70th week is yet to take place. An angel told Daniel that, "70 weeks are determined unto thy people" (Dan 9:24). Scripture never mentions that the tribulation is meant to be a time of testing for Christians. However, some post-tribbers try to claim that they are the ones being tested during the tribulation. To make this so, they need to spiritualize the 144,000 Jewish believers in Revelation 7:2-8 who receive God's protective seal. Placing the Church dispensation into the same time frame as the seven-year Jewish dispensation, as the post-tribbers do, raises one good question: Can two dispensations transpire at the same time? In the past, God has only dealt with one at a time. Having both present during the tribulation would have to be an exception.

"He" That is Taken Out of the Way
Before the Antichrist can be revealed, Paul said a certain "He" must be taken out of the way. According to 2 Thessalonians 2:7, the "He" that must be removed is widely thought to be the Holy Spirit. It has been promised that the Holy Spirit would never leave the Church, and without the working of the Holy Spirit remaining on earth, no one could be saved during the tribulation. The removal of the Church, which is indwelt by the Holy Ghost, would seem the best explanation for this dilemma. The working of the Holy Spirit could go on during the tribulation, but His influence would be diminished because of the missing Church.

War or Rapture
(Rev 19:19-21) When Jesus returns at the end of the tribulation, He will be coming for battle. For those who believe in a post-trib rapture, it would be strange to meet your Lord and Savior just as He's rushing into battle. The idea that war and rapture could occur together is difficult to imagine, especially since they transpire at the same moment.

The Five Foolish Virgins
The wedding story that Jesus gave in Matthew 25:2-13, I believe, is a parable of the rapture of the Church. It explains how some will not be ready. Jesus clearly states that a group of people will miss out on an event, and will cry out to God to let them into the place where He resides, heaven. Although some try to put this parable in a post-trib context, it doesn't fit very well. The ones left behind in a post-trib rapture will not need to seek the Lord because they'll immediately be confronted by Him and His army of angels.

God Hath Not Appointed Us to Wrath
In 1 Thessalonians 5:9, Paul assures us that God has not appointed His people to wrath. This wrath is plainly God's anger that will be poured out during the tribulation. Pre-trib believers interpret this as meaning that Christians will be removed from the earth. Post-trib believers tell a different story. They describe this as meaning that God will protect Christians during the tribulation and pour this wrath out on the unbelievers only. This idea runs against the statement made in Revelation 13:7, in which the Antichrist is given power to make war with the saints and to overcome them. A post-trib view would make God's promise of protection from wrath into a lie. In years past, it was possible to think of being protected from the guns and swords of that day. Today, when any major war would involve nuclear and chemical weapons, it's impossible to expect that same kind of protection. When Nagasaki, Japan was bombed during World War II, the bomb exploded over a Catholic church. Everyone who was in the center of the explosion died--both Christians and non-Christians. The only way to validly interpret God's promise of protection from wrath is by viewing 1 Thessalonians 5:9 as the bodily removal of the Church from this world.

The Salt of the Earth
Jesus said, "Ye are the salt of the earth" (Matthew 5:13). When the believers are supenly removed, the earth will be plunged into spiritual darkness. When this happens, the Antichrist will then be free to control the world.

God Takes an Inventory
In Revelation 7:3, an angel descends to earth and seals the servants of God. Two bits of information about this sealing highly disclaim a post-trib viewpoint. The first item is the number of people sealed: 144,000. The second one is that all those who are sealed are from the 12 tribes of Israel. For the events in Revelation 7:3-8 to be true in a post-trib interpretation, either the Church has turned against God or God has turned against the Church. A post-tribber could write a thousand-word commentary about why the Church doesn't need to be sealed. Instead of trying to argue about why the Church is not mentioned or sealed, a pre-trib proponent could just say, "We're already in heaven."

Noah and Lot as Examples
The tribulation period is compared to the times of Noah and Lot by Jesus in Luke 17:28. Most people argue over whether the time frame Jesus was talking about in that passage was pre-trib or post-trib. In doing so, they miss an important point. The two circumstances that the Noah and Lot situations have in common are the removal of the righteous and the judgment of the unbelievers. From these two accounts, we see that God prefers to remove His own when danger is involved.

Common-Sense Reasons for Believing in the Pretribulation Rapture

    The World Test
One way to check the soundness of a doctrine is to see how the world reacts to it. One company put out a questionnaire that was used to screen prospective employees. One of the questions was, "Do you believe in the rapture?" If you answered "yes," your chances of getting hired would not be good. Some internet sites do not allow the topics of Rapture or Second Coming. They do allow topics such as sex, gays, and drugs. The only time the news media mentions the rapture is when someone sets a date and is proven to be wrong.

    That Old-Time Religion
It used to be a rule of thumb that when one was visiting a church or listening to a preacher, one could assume the preacher believed in repentance, prayer, and the baptism of the Holy Ghost if he taught the rapture doctrine. It was also true that the churches on fire for God worshipped out of storefronts. Today, many of those storefront churches have moved into marble palaces and have strayed from their principal doctrines.

Birds of a Feather Flock Together
Whenever I look at all the groups that teach false doctrine and are highly focused on end-time events, I cannot find any that support the rapture theory. Some organizations, the Jehovah's Witnesses, for example, teach a false gospel and are heavily into Bible prophecy. Why, then, don't Jehovah's Witnesses teach a false doctrine that would be right up their alley? Could it be that the demonic forces that influence these groups know something that Christians opposed to the rapture don't know? The list of prophetically minded cults that reject the idea of a rapture goes on and on. Here are some more: the Mormons, the Worldwide Church of God and the Moonies, as well as leaders like Jim Jones and David Koresh.

The Church Would Rebuke the Antichrist
If the Antichrist came to power with the Church still here, I do not see how he could operate. When Hitler was fighting to take over England, a number of Christians were praying for victory. Hitler made mistake after mistake, and England outperformed its enemy at every stage of the conflict. It is difficult to measure the impact of intercessory prayer in physical warfare. Little is known of how great a role praying saints played in the defeat of Nazi Germany. If the Church were to reside on earth during the tribulation, I am sure she would give the Antichrist fits. In Revelation 11:3, the two witnesses alone give the Antichrist enough headaches. Millions of Christians who know their Bibles well would recognize the man of sin and pray fire down on his head. The post-trib view would have to plan on the Church just rolling over and playing dead the whole seven years.
We should all remember one thing: Knowing the Antichrist's mother's maiden name isn't the primary goal. Knowing Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and having your name written in the Lamb's Book of Life should be your number-one priority. The jailer asked Paul, "What must I do to be saved?" The answer was, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved" (Acts 16:30-31).

Trouble Brewing in the Canary Islands
The Canary Islands are a Spanish archipelago located just off the northwest coast of mainland Africa, 60 miles west of the border between Morocco and Western Sahara. There are 7 main islands in the chain with tall volcanoes and steep canyons. The Canary Islands have long been a major tourist destination with over 12 million visitors per year. Geological properties that make the Canary Islands popular with tourists also make them some of the most dangerous islands on the planet.
Because these islands are made out of brittle basaltic lava and subject to collapse, they have the potential to generate very large landslides. Geologists have found evidence of at least 14 large landslides, which have occurred on the banks of the Canary Islands. Two of the islands are particularly prone to this type of event.
El Hierro is the smallest and most volcanically active island of the Canary Islands.
It is where the most recent landslide occurred—the El Golfo. It involved the collapse of the northern flank of the island. The landslide formed the El Golfo valley and created a debris avalanche with a volume of 111 cubic miles. La Palma doesn’t see as many earthquakes as El Hierro, but it has a feature that warrants watching. Following a volcanic eruption in 1949 nearly half of the island’s southern flank, moved westward by several feet. It now has a crack that runs 2.5 miles in the volcanic basalt. This sword of Damocles is waiting for the next seismic event to send it crashing into the sea. Energy released by such a large-volume landslide would create a mega-tsunami. Within minutes the coast of Africa would be hit by a deluge of water over 330 feet high.
The city of Casablanca, Morocco would be wiped off the map, and almost the entire population of Western Sahara would be swallowed up by the Atlantic Ocean. and Portugal would see wave heights reaching 120 feet. After four hours it would reach Britain sending water up the Thames River and flooding London with 20 feet of water. The low lying countries of the Netherlands and Belgium would see vast tracks of land swallowed up by the seismic waves. The tsunami would lose much of its energy as it crossed the Atlantic ocean, but it would still generate a tsunami 80 feet high as it hit the U.S. coast. Only the tallest and sturdiest buildings in cities like New York, Washington and Boston would offer protection from the surge of water.
To give you an idea of the power that the people on the American coast would have to deal with, during a previous mega-tsunami, boulders the size of houses were ripped from the shore and carried several hundred feet inland. South America would also be devastated. The northern shore of Brazil sticks out directly facing the Canary Islands, and it would experience wave heights of 140 feet. There is no historic disaster to compare to a Canary Island tsunami.
The most deadly tsunami was the one that struck the coast of Indonesia in 2004, killing 240,000 people. A repeat of El Golfo would be 30 times bigger, resulting in a death toll of tens of millions. Any one sounding the alarm bell over the chance of a mega tsunami needs to contend with the fact these events take place over large time scales—but recent events make the warning necessary. In the past few weeks, there have been a string of earthquakes around the island of El Hierro. On December 27th, El Hierro saw its largest earthquake ever—a 5.4 magnitude trembler that struck off the coast at a depth of about ten miles. In the week that followed, over 500 earthquakes rattled the island. There has been little coverage of the earthquake activity by the mainstream media.
I’m sure it’s because the consequences are so horrible that ignorance is bliss. For someone living in Florida, which has an elevation of 14 feet above sea level, there is not much a southern resident of that state could do if they knew an 80 foot wall of water was headed their way at 500 mph. There is a positive side to the fact the world faces mega tsunamis and other disasters of equal intensity. Jesus said He would come back to save his church from what will be the darkest hour for mankind.
The tremors in El Hierro may be one more warning sign to: Get Ready. “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh” (Luke 21:8-11, 25-28). --Todd

Global Warming Guffaws
In thinking on former Vice President Al Gore’s travels in his carbon footprint-spreading private jet while he preaches the globalist gospel that has at its center "global warming," it is impossible not to enjoy a good guffaw at his and the climate-change Charlies as the temperatures invariably fall, as does freezing precipitation wherever and whenever they hold their meetings.
I’m sorry to invoke schadenfreude here, but when one writes on topics as serious as ours usually are in these commentaries, one must take one’s laughs when one can--especially when they are handed to one on a silver platter…well…a white platter, perhaps is more to the point. Such a time of enjoyment over the misfortune of a group of Mr. Gore’s fellow ideological travelers presented itself in recent days. A shipload of "researchers" has made its way into the summertime of the Antarctic. Strangely, mainstream news sources as of this writing have not explained the purpose or mission of these mateys as they neared their destination.
I suppose it is cynical to hazard a guess as to why the mainstream media hasn’t reported the purpose of the mission, but the reason for the laxity of forthcoming journalistic honesty becomes obvious as the global warming hunters became landlocked–well—ice-locked, to be exact. It seems that, like Mr. Gore, his ideological kinsmen–and kinswomen—don’t have a lot of luck in finding the elusive global warming they seek. Could it be a curse cast by Mother Earth for their attempting to become too familiar with her intimate weather cycle doings? Mr. Gore certainly seems to have stirred some sort of irate behavior by the goddess he and his fellow environmental elitists so doggedly revere. Or, could it just be that global warming is a phony-baloney pursuit to extract from the rest of us confiscatory carbon emissions taxes to fund the one-world order they seek to build and rule over? Hmmm...ya think?
At any rate, the following excerpted story is a hoot, in my estimation. You might have heard about it a number of times, but it is simply too delicious to not repeat here. Somewhere far, far to the south where it is summer, a group of global warming scientists are trapped in the Antarctic ice. If you missed the irony of that situation, it is because much of the mainstream media has glossed over that rather inconvenient bit of hilarity. As an example here is an Associated Press story that avoids mentioning the real mission of the scientists aboard the icebound Russian ship:
The Snow Dragon icebreaker came within 7 miles (11 kilometers) of the Russian ship MV Akademik Shokalskiy, which has been stuck since Christmas Eve, but had to retreat after the ice became too thick, said expedition spokesman Alvin Stone. The Akademik Shokalskiy, which has been on a research expedition to Antarctica, got stuck Tuesday after a blizzard's whipping winds pushed the sea ice around the ship, freezing it in place. The ship wasn't in danger of sinking, and there are weeks' worth of supplies for the 74 scientists, tourists and crew on board, but the vessel cannot move… The scientific team on board the research ship — which left New Zealand on Nov. 28 — had been recreating Australian explorer Douglas Mawson's century-old voyage to Antarctica when it became trapped…
Um, there is a bit more to the expedition than merely following in the footsteps of a century-old voyage. But what that mission really is, AP won't say. If AP is vague about the mission's purpose, Reuters provides even less information… The expedition is being led by Chris Turney, “climate scientist”, who has “set up a carbon refining company called Carbonscape which has developed technology to fix carbon from the atmosphere and make a host of green bi-products, helping reduce greenhouse gas levels.” The purpose of the expedition is “to discover and communicate the environmental changes taking place in the south.” It seems they found out what the “environmental changes taking place in the south are.” ("MSM Glosses Over Irony of Global Warming Scientists Trapped in Antarctic Ice," NewsBusters, 12/30/13)
Ah, so now we see the mainstream media's reluctance to flat out state why the scientists are in the Antarctic. Anything to avoid an inconvenient (but accurate) headline like this:
They are reported to have plenty of heat, food, and lots of snow from which to make water, and the ship isn't in any danger of being squashed, apparently. Plus, a Russian icebreaker, which is also stuck as of this writing, and yet another icebreaker are on the way to free the global warming research vessel from the fifteen-foot-thick ice pack. In an update on Friday, January 3, I see the global warmists have been rescued by several carbon emission-gushing helicopters and icebreakers (yet another of one which also got stuck in the growing ice). The global warming "scientists" seem happily on their way to less hostile environs. So no harm done with the schadenfreude. -- Terry

Iranian Official: We Need Nuclear Bomb 'So We Can Put Israel in Its Place' - Sharona Schwartz -

An Iranian official says that his country needs a nuclear bomb in order to "put Israel in its place."

Majlis (Parliament) Member Mohammad Nabavian also said that the Obama administration made numerous, concerted efforts to secure a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani when the latter was in New York - including five telephone calls from U.S. officials to Iran's foreign minister.

"We don't aspire to obtain a nuclear bomb, but it is necessary so we can put Israel in its place," Nabavian said in a speech on Friday which was translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) on Tuesday.

According to MEMRI's analysis, putting Israel "in its place" refers to the Iranian desire "to create a balance of terror vis-a-vis Israel."

Nabavian recounted President Hassan Rouhani describing to him and other lawmakers about the extensive White House attempts to arrange a meeting between President Barack Obama and Rouhani on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York in September.

Those efforts included a message from Obama right after Rouhani won the presidential elections last summer. While he was still in Iran, "the White House contacted me five times seeking a meeting," Nabavian quoted Rouhani as saying.

After arriving in New York, Rouhani again was contacted at his hotel by an unspecified White House official.

"I assembled the delegation accompanying me and we decided not to meet (with Obama). On Tuesday afternoon after the press conference, they said to me, 'why did you humiliate Obama and America?', and I said there was no humiliation. Here I recalled the words of the Imam (Khomeini) who said that one must humiliate the infidel leaders," Nabavian reported about Rouhani's description of the events.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reportedly said that this then happened on Friday: "They contacted me five times from the White House and said that there should at least be a courtesy telephone conversation."

"Now the question must be asked: Why does this superpower insist on meeting Iran's president...while calling us a third-world (country)? Nabavian asked.

MEMRI wrote that Nabavian is "a member of Ayatollah Mohammad Taqi Mesbah Yazdi's radical faction."

Nabavian offered this analysis as to why he thinks the Obama administration courted Rouhani. "In Syria, the U.S. did not manage to attack and was humiliated. In practice, Obama was humiliated because he did not stand up to Iran, and hence it is necessary to meet with Iran's president to show that he is a strong man and tell the world," he said.

Heavily armed militias wrest control of West Bank Palestinian refugee camps from Palestinian Authority -

The rising level of Palestinian terrorism in recent months must be attributed largely to the 19 West Bank refugee sites veering out of the control of the Palestinian Authority, its head Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) and its security services, debkafile's military and counter-terror sources report after a thorough investigation on the ground.  The close to quarter of-a-million Palestinians living in those camps have fallen into the hands of local armed militias run by terrorist organizations, crime mobs and arms racketeers.

The situation today is such that the Palestinian security forces don't dare set foot in those areas, especially the big refugee camps of Nablus (Balata), Tulkarm, Dehaisha - between the Jewish Gush Etzion settlement bloc and Hebron - Askar - east of Nablus, and Jenin. Another no-go area is the Shoafat camp in the municipal area of Jerusalem.

Palestinian security units are afraid of being greeted in the same way as the Israeli military forces, which have cut down on entry to those camps after coming under a hail of automatic fire, firebombs and grenades wielded by gangs of armed thugs. There were also attempts to seize soldiers as hostages.

At the Jenin Palestinian camp on Dec. 17, an Israeli unit arrived to pick up a terrorist suspect; and on Dec. 19, an elite paratroop unit drove into the Qalqilia camp. Both IDF forces withdrew under heavy fire and did not return to deal with the violent assailants.

Control of the big West Bank cities and their outlying refugee camps passed to Palestinian authority under previous accords with Israel. Since then, no one has stopped the Palestinian camps stocking big dumps of illegal weapons, including anti-tank and anti-air rockets, with the local militias vying amongst each other for the biggest and most advanced weaponry.

Our intelligence sources report that, from the third week of December, those arms began spilling over into the Palestinian villages around the camps and are now reaching the towns in trucks of farm produce delivered to city shops. In this way, the local militias are extending their sway from the camps to the West Bank towns under PA rule, such as Nablus, Jenin, Tulkarm and even its own seat, Ramallah, and the Palestinian neighborhoods of E. Jerusalem.

Abu Mazen has not so far lifted a finger to assert his authority for cutting down the armed militias' rule over a large section of his populace. He recently tried to use the veteran Palestinian general Hadj Ismail, in his capacity as coordinator of relations between the PA and the Palestinian provincial governors, to persuade them to take action and put a stop to the mayhem.

This was not much good, because the governors are no longer taking orders from any PA official, especially Abu Mazen.

debkafile points to the strange paradox of the United States and Israel conducting negotiations with the head of a Palestinian ruling body, whose authority slides further day by day and whose signature on any accord would have little practical value.

The parties concerned pretend not to notice this situation for three reasons:

1. US Secretary of State John Kerry, though aware of the true state of affairs in Palestinian-controlled parts of the West Bank, realizes that acknowledging it would render irrelevant his painstaking attention to developing agreed security arrangements in the Jordan Valley and the West Bank itself.

After Kerry keft Israel after another bid to close the gaps between the Palestinians and Israel, a senior Israeli security source told debkafile Monday, Jan. 6 that before tackling the borders question, the Secretary needs to urgently address with the breakdown of security in Palestinian-controlled areas on more than 90 percent of the West Bank before it explodes.

2. The Netanyahu government and its security arms prefer to turn a blind eye to the chaos spreading out from the refugee camps and fast spilling over into the rest of the West Bank, lest they be exposed embarrassingly to be negotiating peace with a leader who can't maintain order in his own house - least of all in an independent Palestinian state.

The unruly state of Palestinian security allows Israeli security authorities to rate the rising violence as random rather than the work of a terrorist organization. This may be true technically, but should not let them off the hook.

 3.  Abbas can't afford to admit to his loss of control in the refugee camps because this would entail exposing his constantly eroding authority in the population he hopes to rule in a future Palestinian state - and not only on the security front. He has also lost the bulk of his support in the main Palestinian ruling bodies: the central committee of his Fatah party and the central council of the PLO.

Secretary of State John F. Kerry is trying - doggedly, relentlessly, exhaustingly - to make peace in the Middle East. And as he has shown during the past week on this, his 10th round of shuttle diplomacy in the region, he has become part broker, part bulldozer.

In hours of meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, Kerry laid out what he calls a framework for a peace deal that would establish an independent Palestinian state and end a conflict dating to Israel's 1948 creation as a nation.

He has tried to get each side to drop petty politicking and look to history. And he has made pit stops across the region - paying calls on Jordan's King Abdullah II and Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah on Sunday - to rally support for the peace project.

Since he began his peacemaking bid, Kerry has bet that a combination of attractive proposals for each side, support and pressure from the United States and other nations, and the sheer force of his will can help make a deal that eluded past Mideast leaders and U.S. envoys.

But six months into the process, there are doubts. Netanyahu and Abbas have yet to meet face to face since Kerry wheedled and pushed them to renew stalled talks. Teams of negotiators have met about 20 times, keeping at it in the face of public frustration and finger-pointing.

With the stated aim of a deal by the end of April, it's crunchtime - a reality that the secretary of state is trying to impress on others.

"Now is not the time to get trapped in the sort of up and down of the day-to-day challenges," Kerry said Sunday. "This does not lend itself to a daily tick-tock. We don't have the luxury of dwelling on the obstacles that we all know could distract us from our goal. What we need to do is lift our sights and look ahead, and keep in mind the vision of what can come if we can move forward."

The latest trip began, not by accident, on New Year's Day. Unless talks fall apart, Kerry is expected to shuttle repeatedly over the next four or more months in an all-out drive to complete the deal. The framework, if Kerry can sell it, would be a significant step. It is intended to be a fairly detailed architecture that addresses all the biggest obstacles to peace, including borders of a future Palestinian state and the jurisdiction of disputed Jerusalem.

"Once they have a shared vision of what that will look like, then it will become easier to finalize the details," a senior official said on the condition of anonymity to discuss some aspects of the largely secret negotiations.

Given the long and troubled history of failed Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking, the Americans have been trying to describe the framework idea without sending signals that this initial agreement would be a substitute for a full peace deal.

Although it would be a placeholder or interim agreement on the way to a final deal, U.S. negotiators don't want to call it that. In the freighted terminology of the Middle East, an "interim agreement" connotes failure and invites skepticism among Palestinians that they will be asked to settle for something less than full sovereignty.

"I want to reiterate: We are not working on an interim agreement," Kerry said Sunday. "We are working on a framework for negotiations that will guide and create the clear, detailed, accepted road map for the guidelines for the permanent-status negotiations and can help those negotiations move faster and more effectively."

Kerry was echoing the language of past failed attempts even as he made the point that he's trying something new. The "road map" is a largely discarded 2002 peace plan advanced by the United States, the European Union, the United Nations and Russia. And "permanent-status negotiations" is diplo-speak for the nitty-gritty of establishing a free and independent Palestine on land that Israel has occupied since 1967.

On Monday, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz had fun with the "framework" concept. An editorial cartoon by Amos Biderman shows Kerry, trademark coif in perfect place, trying to squeeze the scowling figures of Abbas and Netanyahu into a picture frame. They are standing too far apart to fit.

Yet, for all the sarcasm, there is hope in some quarters here. The Jerusalem Post credited Kerry for "single-handedly and with prodigious exuberance" breathing life into the peace process. "Kerry's indefatigable efforts," it said in an editorial, "deserve to be praised and supported."

The Evil of Replacement Theology: Root of the Problem - By Dr. David R. Reagan -

I'd like to get into the topic of Replacement Theology by going to the root of it. And that is Satan's hatred of the Jewish people. Satan hates the Jews with a passion for several reasons:

1.God chose them to be His witness to the world.
2.Through them God gave the world the Bible.
3.Through them God gave the world the Messiah.
4.God has promised that He will save a great remnant of them.
5.God has promised that thru that remnant He will bless all the nations of the world during the Millennial reign of Jesus.

Satan is determined to destroy every Jew on planet earth so that God cannot keep His promises to them.

III. Supersessionism

Part of Satan's strategy has been to infect the Church with what was historically called Supersessionism. This is the idea that God has replaced the Jews with the Church. It's only in the 20th Century that this concept came to be known as Replacement Theology.

There are two basic kinds of Supersessionism. The first type is called "Economic Supersessionism." I prefer to call it "Historical Supersessionism." This is the more moderate form of the theology. It argues that it was God's plan from the beginning for Israel's role as the people of God to expire with the coming of the Messiah and the establishment of the Church. Or, to put it another way, it was God's plan for the people of God to morph from an ethnic group into a universal group.1

An example of this viewpoint among the early Church Fathers can be found in the writings of Melito of Sardis (died c. 180). He wrote:2

The people [Israel] was precious before the church arose, and the law was marvelous before the gospel was elucidated. But when the church arose and the gospel took precedence, the model was made void, conceding its power to the reality...The people [Israel] was made void when the church arose.

A modern representative of this school of thought is Karl Barth (1886-1968). He stated:3

The first Israel, constituted on the basis of physical descent from Abraham, has fulfilled its mission now that the Savior of the world has sprung from it and its Messiah has appeared. Its members can only accept this fact with gratitude, and in confirmation of their own deepest election and calling, attach themselves to the people of this Savior, their own King, whose members the Gentiles are now called to be as well. Its [Israel's] mission as a natural community has now run its course and cannot be continued or repeated.

The far more common type of Supersessionism, and the type that has characterized the Church almost from its beginning, is called Punitive Supersessionism. It emphasizes Israel's disobedience to God and their subsequent justifiable punishment by God and their displacement as the people of God.

To put it another way, "The Chosen People of Israel have been replaced by the Church because the Jewish nation acted wickedly and has forfeited the right to be the people of God."4

It is this viewpoint that early on caused the Church to be infected with a virulent form of anti-Semitism. You see, for almost 2,000 years the Church at large, both Catholic and Protestant, has maintained that due to the fact that the Jews rejected Jesus as their Messiah, God poured out His wrath on them in 70 AD, destroying their nation and their Temple, and in the process, He washed His hands of them, leaving them with no purpose whatsoever as a nation.

In short, because of their continuing disobedience and their rejection of Jesus, God has replaced Israel with the Church, transferring the blessings promised to Israel to the Church.

Today this is called Replacement Theology, and those who still believe in it - the majority of professing Christians - consider modern day Israel to be an accident of history, with no spiritual significance whatsoever. Accordingly, they would deny that God has any special plans for the Jewish people in the end times. Again, to them, the regathering of the Jews and the re-establishment of Israel are simply accidents of history, with no spiritual significance.

Let me give you a graphic example of what I am talking about. Consider the following statement that was made by one of Christendom's best known spokesmen:5

I think it is problematic to relate prophecy to current events unfolding in the nation-state of Israel. There may be some relationship, of course. Only God knows. But the secular state of Israel created in 1948 is not, in my understanding, identical with the Jewish people as God's chosen and called-out covenant people.

I strongly support Israel because it is a haven for persecuted Jews - not because I think it fulfills biblical prophecy. I also support a Palestinian state both from historical and prudential considerations. Given the state of affairs in the Middle East, a Palestinian state is the only practicable solution for peace.

And who wrote these words? Chuck Colson!

In the third part of this study on how Replacement Theology has resulted in the historical abuse of the Jews by the Church, we'll look at the evolution of this evil doctrine in the Early Church.

Prophetic arctic freeze across America - Bill Wilson -

It was Wednesday January 1 that Secretary of State John Kerry went to Israel on another "peace" mission and now he is returning to the US empty handed on peace, but with a full basket of destruction. Xihnua press reported that Kerry proposed the return of some 80,000 "Palestinian" refugees to Israel, but that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas insisted on 200,000. Kerry also talked up his idea of handing over parts of Jerusalem to the terrorist entity and giving Jordan jurisdiction over holy sites in the city, according to Xinhua. Even so, Abbas and his terror-sponsoring handlers continued to refuse to recognize Israel's right to exist.

The UK Telegraph reported that Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "launched an angry tirade of complaints to Mr Kerry...linked the issue to what he said was a campaign of Palestinian incitement against Israel." He told Sunday's cabinet meeting, "The Palestinians are continuing their campaign of inciting hatred, as we have seen in the last few days with their refusal to recognize Israel as a state for the Jewish people...We are not foreigners in Jerusalem, Beit El [a West Bank settlement] or Hebron. I reiterate that, in my view, this is the root of both the conflict and the incitement - the non-recognition of this basic fact."

Last month reports surfaced in the Jerusalem Post that Kerry offered to post Israeli soldiers in a decade-long protection of a new Palestinian state until Palestinian security officers could be trained--an offer that was reportedly rejected outright. On this trip, Kerry reportedly offered US troops to protect the borders from "anti-Israel" activities, according to Debkafile and the Christian Science Monitor. If the occupant of the Oval Office protects the Israeli border as he does the US border, Israel would be overrun. This administration's efforts to empower the Islamic forces in the Middle East is unprecedented in American history. This has prophetic implications as the world hurls toward the return of Christ.

For example, Kerry comes home to a cold reception. According to the National Climatic Data Center, there were 183 low temperature records set from January 1 to 5 (the time of Kerry's trip), with 9 minimum temperature records broken on January 5, primarily on the East coast (Washington DC, New York, Boston). With the economic climate, the physical climate, the moral climate, it would appear that the Lord is sending a pretty clear prophetic message to Americans: The Lord says of Israel in Genesis 12:3, "And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curses thee." Obadiah 1:15: "For the day of the Lord is near upon all the heathen: as you have done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head." We need to choose leaders that reflect our beliefs, or the rain will come upon the just as well as the unjust.

Contemplating the Cross - Greg Laurie -

Thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.
-1 Corinthians 15:57

I heard about a man who tried to start his own religion but soon found that it didn't go so well. He decided to approach the French statesman Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-érigord and ask him what he should do to gain converts. The statesman told him, "I recommend that you get yourself crucified, die, and then rise again on the third day."

Jesus' death on the cross and His resurrection on the third day is the cornerstone of the Christian faith. It is what sets our faith as Christians apart from the faith of all others. Yet many view Christ's crucifixion as a rude interruption of what was an otherwise successful ministry. But the cross was at the forefront of the mind of Jesus Christ from the very beginning. This is where He knew He was headed, and He spoke of it often. The Bible even tells us that before He even came to this earth, a decision was made that He would ultimately go to the cross. Scripture calls Him "the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world" (Revelation 13:8 NLT).

It was at the cross that the righteous demands of God were satisfied. It was at the cross that God and humanity were reconciled once again. It was at the cross that a decisive blow was dealt against Satan and his minions. It was at the cross that our very salvation was purchased. Therefore, we can't talk about the cross too much - or contemplate it too often.

The 'Church of Christ' in the Last Days - Pete Garcia -

Chances are, if you belong to a Church of Christ (non-instrumental), you probably wouldn't be reading the Omega Letter in the first place.  But, I have met enough people along the way who were or know people who are; that I thought this warranted writing.

I was born and raised Southern Baptist, but married into a five generation-strong Church of Christ family.  Having attended almost a dozen different Churches of Christ in three different states, I have come to notice similarities and differences amongst all these different churches. But there is one common thread in all of the ones we have attended.

Churches of Christ pride themselves in following the early church model as found in the book of Acts, and not falling underneath any type of hierarchical structure of a higher organization, such as the Southern Baptist do with their SBC Convention or how the Vatican does with the Roman Catholic churches.  Each Church of Christ is an independent island of believers rooted together in common faith.  But this is also why there have been so many different types of Churches of Christ who have branched out or split apart since the Stone-Campbell movement in the 1800's.

Recently, I attended a Wednesday night bible study at the local Church of Christ and was entreated to a class that could for all intents and purposes be called "the Dangers of Dispensationalism" or "Why Futurism is a Faulty View" as I think that ultimately this was at the heart of his teaching.  The preacher teaching the class began to hit some rapid fire points right off the bat to include a clip from the Left Behind movie that came out in 2000.

1.Dispensationalism began in the 1800's with John Nelson Darby---thus can't be trusted.
2.Israel uprooted the local population in 1948 and thus has become much of the problem in the Middle East
3.American politics and churches are overwhelmingly Dispensational which is why we are so 'pro-Israel' which of course is dangerous
4.You cannot take the book of Revelation literally or chronologically as it is "Apocalyptic literature", thus in it's "own" special kind of category.

Not knowing what was being taught that night and being a Pre-Millennial Dispensationalist, I of course took exception too much of the discussion.  I spoke up politely because much of what was being taught simply wasn't true.  This of course didn't sit well with the preacher who probably didn't anticipate being challenged on any of his prescribed views and led to my early self-dismissal from the class.  But this experience got me thinking.

Question: If Churches of Christ are supposed to be stand-alone churches (not bound by creeds or indoctrinated by some higher organization), why do they all tend to hold to the same Eschatological view? [See Revelation 19:10]

The How and Why

After this class, I began to research this this more in depth and came across an article released through Pepperdine University (in the January 2000 edition of Leaven magazine) by a Dr. Lynn Mitchell entitled Eschatology: Essential, Yet Essentially Ignored.  The author belongs to the Church of Christ, and was writing essentially to ask the same question I am asking here now 14 years later.  He makes some interesting points that seem common across the Churches of Christ.  He notes two interesting points in the history of the Church of Christ's eschatological understanding.  The first he chronicles how it happened:

"Eschatology died as a living concern among our churches because of at least four related developments:

(1) The acceptance of the church-kingdom identity fostered by Tolbert Fanning and like-minded sectarians;

(2) The powerful and brutal assault on millennial modes of thought and millennial thinkers, particularly premillennial, by the Foy E. Wallace Jr. cadre of de-eschatologizers;

(3) The subsequent ruthlessly enforced triumph of Amillennialism and the dogma of church-kingdom identity; and

(4) The filling of the vacuum in eschatological thinking with inane, hybridized life-after-death language uninformed by biblical or systematic theology."

Dr. Mitchell succinctly sums up the end result of such theological witch-hunts within the Churches of Christ in his essay:

"All we have left is ah-millennialism."

"We are neither passionately radical nor invigoratingly hopeful."

As to Foy E. Wallace Jr, history records he made it his personal mission to stomp out Pre-Millennialism single handedly if need be:

In October 1935 Wallace founded the Gospel Guardian as a monthly magazine primarily to combat the views of the premillennialists. The Gospel Guardian ended in June 1936 and merged with the Firm Foundation. In 1937 Wallace was the front-page writer for the Firm Foundation. In 1938 Wallace founded the Bible Banner, initially also dedicated to the defeat of premillennial doctrine.

By the early 1940s, every significant paper and college associated with Churches of Christ took the amillennial position, often, like Wallace, never using the terms amillennial or Amillennialism. By 1949, when Wallace ceased publishing the Bible Banner, this campaign had been so effective that fewer than a hundred congregations adhered to the premillennial view, and those generally isolated from the mainline, as they remained for decades.

Dr. Mitchell does a decent job of showing why the modern Church of Christ churches and universities promote the Amillennial eschatological view over all the others.  I pointed out on that fateful Wednesday night that it was to the credit of Augustine of Hippo (circa-5th century A.D.) that Amillennialism even exists.  Augustine wrote and developed much of what the Roman Catholic Church adheres to as doctrine and dogma.  This revelation went over like a wet blanket on a cold night.

In all the discussions I've had with Church of Christ elders, deacons, preachers, and church members over the years, there is a general consensus that Eschatology is best left to the experts, and the "experts" all hold to either an Amillennial, Pan-millennial (it will all pan out in the end), or Preterist view of Bible prophecy.

If the conversation continued long enough, the unanimous conclusion drawn from my counterpart is almost always "what does Eschatology matter for the here and now?"

So what does it matter?  I've stated in previous articles that how one views the end, will largely shape how one views the here and now.  Would it matter if you don't believe in God or an afterlife?  Would it matter if you believed that you were THE kingdom come here on earth now?  Would it matter if you believed that life will just go on and on until the end of time when God one day just pulls up the curtains and says 'That's All, Folks!'  Would it matter if you believed that Christ could return at any moment?

"Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect."  Luke 12:40

Aside from the historical origins of Amillennialism, accepting this view comes with some significant theological challenges.  First of which, is the amount of prophetic scriptures one has to either dismiss as "apocalyptic literature" or has to allegorize to such an extent that it could mean anything.  That would be around 30 % of your Bible both Old and New.

The Critics

German Higher Criticism came about around the 18th century promoting and attempting to answer the inerrancy claims of the Scriptures from a philosophical and rationalist perspective.  It was birthed in Europe, but soon moved to the American seminaries as many of these clergy departed Europe for the New World.  One of the products of their teachings was developing a Lower Criticism and a Higher Criticism.  The lower dealt with the actual physical translations and texts (or how they came together over the centuries) and the Higher dealt with the actual content of the messages.

The Maccabean Jews had first coined the term "apocalyptic literature".  But since they (nor Judaism) accepted the New Testament, this term would later be co-opted by the critics who used it in describing the Revelation and other text that fell into this category. It seemingly gave license to teachers and preachers to either dismiss or allegorize the prophetic text.  At the very least, "apocalyptic literature" would not receive the same theological weight as say the Gospels or the Epistles.

Question: What happened to the Holy Spirit being the true Author of Scriptures?  [See 2 Tim 3:16-17, Hebrews 4:12-13]

The term "apocalyptic literature" soon became a catchall phrase for all the passages of scripture that seemingly argued against Amillennialism.  The main problem with this is that one cannot hold to a consistent view of Scriptures and simultaneously promote Higher Criticism at the same time because they work against each other.

For example, higher critics would argue that half of Daniel (chapters 7-12) was written in the 2nd century B.C., because it too accurately predicted the rise and fall of nations that came to pass from Daniel's time (5th-6th century BC) to the time of Christ.  They neglect the truth that the true author of Scripture was not Daniel, but God.

There is a danger to this type of 'higher criticism' thinking.  Almost every Church of Christ elder or preacher that I have spoken too on this topic have no issue with all the prophecies that foretold the first coming of Christ...of which around 108 prophecies were literally fulfilled.  Yet, they tend to dismiss the next 300 or so prophecies concerning Christ's Second Coming as 'apocalyptic literature'.  The Pharisees of Jesus's day applied this same type of dismissive reasoning to His first coming.  Think about that for a second.

When the wise men (Magi from the East) came to worship Christ, notice how King Herod's chief priests and scribes all knew about the prophecies concerning the coming Messiah; but none of them really believed it or they would have already been searching Him out. At the very least, they would have travelled the five miles from Jerusalem to Bethlehem with the Wise men to see for themselves.  But they didn't. [See Matthew 2]

One last point that I heard reiterated from time to time in C of C churches is that prophecy is based on the Hebraic Mindset, and that prophecy is pattern, and not to be taken chronologically as laid out in the book of Revelation.  That is true to an extent, but that is not the whole truth.  Jesus responds to His disciple's questions about the last days sequentially in the Olivet Discourse (Matt. 24, Mark 13, Luke 21)...of which Revelation 6-19 is merely an expansion on.

Question:  Was Jesus using Hebraic reasoning that spoke in patterns as 'apocalyptic literature' in the Olivet Discourse, or was He, as God answering sequentially the question that His disciples asked Him about the last days?

The hour is too late and the day too far gone to spend your time either not knowing or deliberately ignoring what God has to say about our immediate future.  There is nothing wrong with taking a literal understanding of the Bible.  Yes there are different types of speech; parables, euphemisms, figures of speech, symbolism, etc...But just using a common sense approach to Scriptures solves a lot of these differences. Having a literal understanding, doesn't have to be "wooden" or rigid as some would say, its totally based on the understanding that God instructed men what to write, and God is not bound to time like we are.  'He declares the end from the beginning' (Isaiah 46:9-10) and what He says will come to pass.

You don't have to believe what I write, but be a Berean and search these things out for yourself.  Don't just take what a guy in the pulpit tells you because he went to seminary and you didn't.  As believers, we all belong to the body of Christ and we all received the same Holy Spirit who will reveal to you these things you seek out.  I'll close with a warning by Jesus to a church that no longer concerned themselves about watching for His return.  We too should take heed, since Jesus ends this (as He does with all the others) by saying 'He who has an ear, let him hear'...

"Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you." Revelation 3:3
