I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase.
1 Corinthians 3:6
You see the true humility of Paul in this verse. He never lifted himself above others or thought himself more important. He realized the real work of the church was done by God, not him, not Apollos, not you and not me.
I have done those things at one time or another. I have planted and I have watered, but I have never given the increase. We all plant and water, but God gives the increase. God is the One who builds the church.
I am the senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Golden Springs and I have many leaders serving with me but this is not my church, this is His church. These are God’s people, not my people. I am here to serve Him. I want to see God do mighty and powerful things like never before, so He can continue to do even greater and greater things.
I have been in the ministry for 40 years and I have seen people come and go. I have seen them fall and get destroyed, because they got puffed up. They could have been restored but they forgot it is all God’s work, not their own.
It is really important we understand, without God there is no increase, no increase at all. God is the one who builds. God is the one who gets the glory and honor. He is the one who takes down the one and lifts up the other. We are just vessels He uses to plant and water.
Man does what he can, and God what He will. -John Ray-
