Russia seeking to revive nuclear talks between Iran and world powers
Russia will attempt to revive nuclear talks between Iran and the world's biggest economic and military powers this week, in the hopes that its special relationship with Tehran can help jolt back to life negotiations that some analysts consider "dead in the water". Presidential Security Council secretary Nikolai Patrushev is due to meet with his Iranian counterpart and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Tehran on Monday and is expected to raise a Russian plan to restart the talks that collapsed in January.

Egypt deploys thousands of troops and tanks in Sinai, in coordination with Israel
Egypt, in coordination with Israel, has deployed its military in the northern Sinai Peninsula in order to gain control over the anarchy that has taken hold of the region, a senior Israeli defense official said on Sunday. Egyptian troops escorted by tanks entered the Sinai Peninsula region on Friday in an attempt to put an end to the anarchy that has erupted there since the fall of the Mubarak regime.

Syria unrest: 'Deadly military attack' on Latakia port
Syrian warships have joined a military assault targeting protesters in the northern port city of Latakia, activists say. At least 19 people have been killed in the operation, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. The military attack began on Saturday, targeting the protesters' stronghold of Ramleh in the city, it said.

Bachmann received 28 percent of the nearly 17,000 votes cast. Texas Rep. Ron Paul was close behind her with 27 percent. Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty came in a distant third with 13 percent of the vote, followed by former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum with 9 percent and businessman Herman Cain with 8 percent.

Libya conflict: Rebels battle Gaddafi troops in Zawiya
Fighting has continued inside the Libyan city of Zawiya, just 50km (30 miles) west of the capital Tripoli, after a rebel offensive on Saturday. A small rebel force was seen in the city centre on Sunday but it is believed government troops are still in the area.

France and Greece feel economic strain
French economic growth was zero in the second quarter, compared with the previous three months, adding pressure for the government to curb its deficit. But French Finance Minister Francois Baroin insisted the economy was solid. Meanwhile, the Greek economy shrank by 6.9% in the second quarter, compared with the same period a year earlier.

China may be worst protectionist ever: U.S. analyst
China's massive intervention in currency markets could qualify it as the most protectionist nation in history, a leading U.S. economist said on Friday. "China has intervened massively in the foreign exchange markets for at least five years, buying at least $1 billion every day to keep the dollar strong and its own renminbi weak," Fred Bergsten, president of the Peterson Institute for International Economics, said in the text of a speech.

Syrian gunboats fire on coastal city; 19 killed
Syrian gunboats firing heavy machine guns pounded impoverished districts of Latakia on Sunday, killing at least 19 people in a renewed assault on the Mediterranean coastal city, activists said. As the gunships blasted waterfront districts, ground troops backed by tanks and security agents stormed several neighborhoods. The sharp crackle of machine-gun fire and loud explosions could be heard across the city.

Hotel bomb kills 12 people in Pakistan
A bomb attached to a timer ripped through a two-story hotel in Pakistan's southwestern Baluchistan province Sunday, reducing the building to rubble and killing 12 people, police said. The attack in the town of Dera Allah Yar also wounded 23 people, said Jawed Iqbal Gharshin, the police chief in surrounding Jafferabad district. Police have taken two people into custody who had tea in the hotel's restaurant and left just before the bomb went off, he said.

Syrian Protesters Call for Assad's Death

Christian News

Tens of thousands of Syrian protesters shouted for President Bashar Assad's death Friday in a dramatic escalation of their rage and frustration, defying bullets and rooftop snipers after more than a week of intensified military assault on Syria's rebellious cities, activists and witnesses. Security forces killed at least 14 protesters, according to human rights groups.

The calls for Assad's execution were a stark sign of how much the protest movement has changed since it erupted in March seeking minor reforms but making no calls for regime change. The protests grew dramatically over the five months that followed, driven in part by anger over the government's bloody crackdown in which rights groups say at least 1,700 civilians have been killed.

President Gul sends President Assad letter demanding immediate cessation of all violence; warns relations between states may be at risk Ynet

Turkey is not ruling out international intervention in Syria, if President Bashar Assad's regime continues its military crackdown against civilians, a senior official in Ankara told Turkey-based Hurriyet paper on Saturday.

The source said that Turkish President Abdullah Gul sent a letter to his Syrian counterpart through Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, in which he delivered an ultimatum to Damascus, demanding to end all violence against protesters.

"The men who have done the most for God in this world have been early on their knees. He who fritters away the early morning, its opportunity and freshness, in other pursuits than seeking God will make poor headway seeking Him the rest of the day. If God is not first in our thoughts and efforts in the morning, He will be in the last place the remainder of the day." - E. M. Bounds
